The Reverend Dr. William Adamson, Minister Emeritus

Dr. Adamson became the founding minister of the original congregation known as St. Giles, Humber Valley, in 1950. Following graduation from Knox College, and a two year ministry in Manitoba, Dr. Adamson single-handedly ministered to this congregation for forty years. In 1961, Dr. Adamson successfully led the two Etobicoke congregations of St. Giles Humber Valley and Kingsway into a merger to be known as St. Giles Kingsway Presbyterian Church. Dr. Adamson's career in ministry was marked by active and devoted service, both, to his own congregation, and in the broader concerns of the Presbyterian Church in Canada. Two honours were bestowed on him: in 1978, Dr. Adamson was granted a Doctor of Divinity degree (honoris causa) by Knox College; and in 1998 his congregation recognized his services by bestowing on him the title of Minister Emeritus, St. Giles Kingsway Presbyterian Church. Dr. Adamson's retirement, and the 40th anniversary of the congregation, were celebrated simultaneously in 1990. Dr. Adamson, and his wife, Brenda, continue to attend and actively support the ministry of St. Giles Kingsway Presbyterian Church.

The Reverend Dr. Clyde Ervine

Following the retirement of its founding pastor, Dr. Bill Adamson, there was a concern at St. Giles Kingsway about losing some the ground gained since the congregation's inception. Looking back, it is surely providential that the search committee of St. Giles Kingsway found a young Irish minister, then serving a congregation in Chippawa, Ontario. The search concluded with the induction of this minister, the Reverend Dr. Clyde Ervine. It didn't take long before the congregation began to share Clyde's eagerness and commitment, and his desire to faithfully proclaim the riches of God's Word. While mindful of the needs of the elderly, Clyde was also gifted in gaining the interest of young families and the youth of our community. A variety of congregational programs were instituted, including Home Bible Study groups, and additional staff were hired. Needless to say, all of this fitted nicely upon the platform established under Dr. Adamson's leadership. As the congregation reflects upon the ministry of Clyde Ervine, the people of God are led to say, "Surely the hand of God was in this, and we are ever so indebted to our Heavenly Father for providing such leadership for St. Giles Kingsway."
